How Do You Implement Cost Reduction of Processes?
Process cost reduction is equally important. Here I rely heavily on LEAN techniques. This both holds
head-count in check and frees existing staff to pursue more value-added activities. Though of critical
importance, engineering processes such as documentation and change management consume time that would
otherwise be available for design. From 2006 through 2008, I iteratively reduced the process time by more
than 20% through aggressive Kaizen events while simultaneously improving process integrity. In terms of the
design process itself, I aggressively pursue technology licensing to reduce development cost, time-to-market,
and to combat “Not Invented Here” syndrome. I also engage extensively in co-development with contract houses
in emerging economies for the design of non-proprietary subsystems and accessory products.
